Tourist agency deploys remote working technology

VisitBritain deploys Citrix technology for remote workers

National tourism agency VisitBritain has signed a deal with IT supplier Citrix so that employees can gain access to corporate systems remotely from around the world.

The agency which promotes Britain as a tourist location to other counties will use the Citrix thin-client technology in 36 countries.

VisitBritain will work with technology services firm Intercept IT to deploy the system, which will allow 600 staff to access corporate applications over a secure network.

'We wanted to move to a more efficient technology model which would centralise the delivery and support of our corporate applications, while improving access for mobile and remote workers, and reducing the support burden of a globally deployed infrastructure,' said Richard Britton, head of technology at VisitBritain.

The tourism agency also expects to reduce the cost of IT projects as systems upgrades will be able to be carried out centrally rather engineers visiting different sites.
