Liverpool signs £11m schools deal

Investment will provide eight schools with IT

Schools in Liverpool will benefit from new systems

Liverpool City Council is undertaking an £11m joint venture with BT to supply new IT to the local education authority as part of the second phase of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

The £45bn BSF scheme aims to revamp buildings and IT for secondary schools around the country and is the biggest ever schools investment programme.

The deal with BT will allow Liverpool council to provide a learning platform, email services, wireless connectivity, interactive whiteboards and e-learning programmes to eight schools in the area.

Steve Chesters, business development manager for education at Liverpool Direct, said that the announcement is great news for all those in the education system.

"Through innovative information and communication technologies, we will bring greater flexibility to support curriculum development and increased collaboration between schools," he said.
