Handy tool speeds encryption on Vista
Data Encryption Systems unveils new version of its DESlock+ encryption tool
Data Encryption Systems (DES) has unveiled a new version of its DESlock+ encryption tool for Windows, which adds a Gadget for the Windows Vista Sidebar to let users drag-and-drop files to be encrypted.
DESlock+ differs from other encryption tools in its use of shared keys to enable more than one worker to access the same encrypted data. Version 3.2.6 adds a new feature, the DESlock+ Vista Gadget, that lets users encrypt files by dragging them to it and specifying a password.
The Sidebar is a feature of the Windows Vista desktop where users can place mini applications dedicated to specific tasks.
DES managing director David Tomlinson said that the new Gadget makes it incredibly easy for people to share password protected files and email.
The DESlock+ Vista Gadget can be used in conjunction with the main DESlock+ program, but is also available for download as a standalone tool from Microsoft’s online Gadget gallery.
DESlock+ has been Vista-compatible since the release of version 3.2.5 in February 2007.
