Yamaha revs up monitoring of sales results

Computing reports from the annual Cognos UK user conference in London

Yamaha Motor is to use business intelligence software to monitor the results of its UK dealer network.

The software will for the first time provide the automotive manufacturer’s UK subsidiary access to aggregated sales performance data from its 400 franchised motorcycle, marine and power product dealers.

‘The drive behind this investment is to provide managers and directors with a more accurate picture of the day-to-day performance of the business,’ said Nick Batchelor, Yamaha Motor UK computer services divisional manager.

Yamaha is about to go live with tools from supplier Cognos. They have been installed by partner Simpson Associates.

The tools link directly into Yamaha’s sales order system to provide more detailed sales and margin analysis which can then be broken down by division, region, product or transaction.

Managers will be able to tailor these reports to display relevant information in a variety of timeframes and, according to individual needs, remove the time-consuming task of collating separate reports that only deliver a static view of performance.

‘We can reproduce regular reports into dealer and territory performance more quickly than before,’ said Batchelor.
