Suite regulates USB use

Prefix IT will next month update its PC management suite, adding the ability to control the use of USB storage devices on PCs across the company LAN.

PrefixNE 2.2, available from October, will let IT managers allow or disallow the use of external storage devices on client systems on a per-user basis.

The new USB Guard feature can prevent the copying of company files to USB Flash drives and block the use of unauthorised devices such as digital music players.

The suite is designed as a comprehensive management console for companies with up to 1,000 employees that may not have a large permanent IT department, according to Prefix IT.

“It gives IT managers all of the tools you would expect in a large enterprise suite like Tivoli, but without the complexity,” said managing director Darren Rockman.

PrefixNE licences cost from £50 per seat with one year’s free maintenance and upgrades.
