Mozilla plans social Firefox

Mozilla is working on social networking add-ons for its Firefox browser

The Mozilla Foundation has released details about The Coop, a new product that will place social networking tools directly into its Firefox browser.

In a labs blog post Mozilla's Mike Beltzner, said that the 'social' aspect of the internet "friends sharing experiences, the very backbone of social interactions and friendships" had never made it into web browsers. But, he added, "enter 'The Coop', a Mozilla labs project to experiment with adding social tools to the web browser."

Currently only in trial stages a prototype of The Coop is available in the addons.mozilla.org page within the sandbox extensions. This first build uses Facebook's 'Share' tool to let users share content which could come from Flickr, del.icio.us, MySpace or YouTube.
