Windows Mobile to support Office 2007 files

Microsoft is to ship a free update for its Office Mobile that will enable it to read documents created in the desktop Office 2007 suite.

Office Mobile 2007 will be made available in the third quarter of 2007 for devices running Windows Mobile 6 and the Pocket PC edition of Windows Mobile 5.0, the company said. Device makers will also be able to ship new Windows Mobile 6.0 handsets with Office Mobile 2007 pre-installed within the same timeframe.

As well as support for Office 2007 file formats in the mobile versions of Word, Excel and Powerpoint, Microsft said that Office Mobile 2007 adds new features including Fax and ZIP support.
