Nanotechnology taskforce is launched

The University of Surrey launches plan to examine social and economic benefits of nanosciences

Taskforce is calling for a centralised government strategy to support nanosciences

The University of Surrey is launching a UK Nanotechnology Taskforce today to encourage the government to develop a coherent strategy on the future of nanotechnology.

The taskforce, led by Labour MP Ian Gibson, has been convened to raise the profile of the subject across all levels of government and open debate about the use of nanotechnology in the UK.

The economic, social and environmental benefits of nanotechnology will be examined while addressing concerns about safety and ethical issues.

The taskforce intends to focus political attention more clearly on policies and infrastructures necessary to develop nanosciences, calling for increased financial support and the importance of a coherent, centralised strategy for supporting nanotechnology in the UK.
