Unipart casts keen eye over supply chain
Logistics firm monitors Jaguar with new software
Logistics company Unipart has implemented monitoring software to deliver visibility of the entire Jaguar supply chain, one of its largest end-to-end logistics clients.
Unipart manages the processes and systems used to place orders at over 1,000 Jaguar dealers globally, requiring instant visibility of prices, ordering and dispatch.
Jaguar dealers use a web-based catalogue to remotely access data on parts and orders and to track deliveries in real time. But response times were slow as online catalogues of technical parts are complex due to the high volumes of information.
Unipart chose Foglight Experience Monitor from Quest Software, which monitors web-based applications and enables quick diagnosis of performance problems.
It highlights data trends, enabling Unipart to analyse which dealers were experiencing slow performance and what they were doing when delays occurred.
Unipart IT director Myron Hrycyk says within two weeks of its implementation, the software enabled it to identify the causes of Jaguar dealers’ performance issues and was making changes to resolve them.
‘Without the software, we were working in the dark,’ he said. ‘It enabled us to quickly pinpoint the causes of the problem and focus efforts in the places where change would deliver improved performance.
‘For instance, by amending the content presentation, we were able to reduce response times of some pages by up to 30 percent.’
Hrycyk says Unipart will use the experience at other clients.
‘Monitoring software should be used strategically and not be a bolt-on afterthought,’ he said. ‘Understanding end-user behaviour is critical for managing system performance and the user experience.’
