IT decision-makers more concerned about security

New research by the Business Software Alliance finds that firms are working on more security projects

IT decision makers have grown more concerned about security in the past two years and are increasing the number of security projects they are working on, according to new research by the Business Software Alliance which was released at the RSA Security Conference yesterday.

The survey of 410 IT decision makers, carried out by analyst firm Forrester last month, found that nearly three-quarters of respondents said IT security has become critical to their business planning, with 81 percent reporting concerns about financial losses due to downtime.

In addition, over fifty percent said they keep a list of government authorities and report security breaches to them.

Meanwhile, also at the event, online security vendor Internet Security Systems (ISS) announced four new products designed to simplify the task of administrators and improve the visibility and protection of network assets.

The new offerings cover network anomaly and detection; vulnerability management and protection; intrusion prevention; and security management, according to the firm.
