ISP Pipex protects remote offices and teleworkers

SecureTeleworker and SecureOffice services beef up protection on virtual private networks

Internet service provider Pipex has launched a new service to help firms boost security for branch offices and remote workers.

Pipex said the technology would protect staff outside of main offices against ID theft, malware and phishing attacks, by extending the capabilities of virtual private networks and boosting their security.

Pipex has released two new tools, SecureTeleworker and SecureOffice, which form a secure private network between the main office and the remote worker. Rather than just encrypting traffic they use a private DSL connection and a layered security architecture to keep data secure.

“Businesses that think they’re safe by using VPNs for remote access need to think again – they may just be creating unintentional backdoors for hackers,” said Pipex managing director for business services Maria Cappella in a statement. “With teleworking now well established as a standard option for business, organisations need to look at how they can extend the security perimeter of the network to protect themselves against the increasing sophistication of network attacks.”
