Bupa migrates data to new system
Private healthcare patients now have single record for each customer
Bupa will benefit from improved administration
Private healthcare provider Bupa has migrated all its data onto a new system that will provide a single record for each customer, reducing the number of records by two-thirds.
Previously Bupa had multiple records for each customer, making it more difficult to understand their requirements immediately.
The new system will enable Bupa to introduce its One Plan initiative, which aims to bring new products to market more quickly and tailor offers and reductions for its 12.7 million members more accurately.
The project was a risky one, according to Steve Felton, director of business change at Bupa.
“We were very aware that consolidation of so many systems was a risky strategy and that the data migration element presented significant challenges and pitfalls," he said.
“For the new systems to be implemented successfully, it was imperative that all the relevant customer and financial information was transferred to the new applications accurately."
To gain Financial Services Athority and HM Revenue & Customs approval for the project, Bupa had to account for data being transferred accurately and in its entirety throughout, as well as providing visibility of data for the auditing process at a very early stage.
The migration was performed by vendor Kognitio over a single weekend.
