HP updates storage line
HP announced major updates to its data storage and archiving products last week, aimed at improving the backup process and streamlining storage policy management.
New ProLiant servers configured with Microsoft Data Protection Manager and Windows Storage Server 2003 should make it easier for IT managers to schedule backups. In addition, the firm has launched an electronic vaulting service that stores customer data in HP datacentres.
Elsewhere, the firm’s Reference Information Storage System (Riss) has been updated to support SAP and Oracle databases.
A new software agent helps IT staff ensure data is stored on the most appropriate media and disposed of when no longer needed. “The StorageWorks File Migration Agent tackles policy management – how to move files automatically from one type of storage to another,” said HP’s David Smith.
