Architect firm has designs on savings
Reid consolidates information into a single system
International architects Reid Architecture is implementing knowledge management software to provide real-time updates on all its latest project information.
The Workspace portal will offer updates on activities such as technical and design documents to business development and its accounting records.
It will also consolidate its internal databases and intranet the resolve the problem of unconnected software packages in London office.
Reid Architecture director Robert Dalziel says the system enables the capture, storing and retrieving of the entire knowledge base of the company through a single system.
This will allow it to improve document control, email and drawing management, project time sheet recording and resource and skills management.
‘What we are doing is pretty ambitious as we are replacing all our current databases with Workspace,’ Dalziel said.
‘But it is critical that project information is readily available and at our fingertips. Workspace will be particularly useful to our technical staff enabling them to make project decisions on the most up-to-date and reliable information.’
He says once it is rolled out at its London office in September, the software could be roll out across offices worldwide, including in Scotland, Spain and Australia.
Workspace is provided by Union Square Software and Reid is confident the benefits will give it a significant return on its £100,000 investment.
