Sage makes hosted move

Sage enters hosted accounting software market with 50 Accounts Professional Online 2007

Sage has made its first move into the hosted accounting software market with the release of Sage 50 Accounts Professional Online 2007.

Aimed at accountants and their clients, the release provides the ability to work from anywhere with an internet link, Sage said. Users will also get familiar hosted software attractions such as no upfront costs or server requirement.

Sage intends the release to be supplemented by others that will also be branded “Online”.

Although accounting firms are often regarded as notorious technology laggards, Sage UK chief executive Paul Stobart said the move was in response to customer demand.

“We can see the need from our accountants who want to collaborate with customers without having to visit them,” Stobart said.

The release is currently limited to Sage Accountants Club members and their clients, and will be priced from £75 per month for a three-user tariff.
