Royal Liverpool Golf Club installs systems to deal with world's media

Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, has installed communications systems to help with the hosting of the 135th Open Championship.

The system includes 1,000 new telephone lines, 900 data connections and wireless networking facilities for the duration of the Open to support media orgnisations covering the event.

The club is working with consultancy firm Mac systems to put the system in place. They in turn worked with communications technology specialist Thus who installed the necessary equipment.

Thus provided a comprehensive system on a tight deadline, says Paul Burns of Mac Systems.

'The task included the installation of two radio masts and a full fibre backbone dug into the course,' he said.

'In addition, the connectivity can add on lines on an ad hoc basis in order to meet the needs of the world's sports media.'
