PKR.com quids in thanks to new traffic management system
Software from Zeus helps the company to reduce bandwidth costs and risk of outages
Pkr.com claims its software will lower bandwidth costs for web traffic by more than 50 per cent per annum
Online gambling site PKR.com has introduced traffic management software that it claims will lower bandwidth costs for web traffic by more than 50 per cent per annum.
The software, from Zeus, also helps the company reduce the risk of outages.
The site has to be online and monitored 24/7, but owing to the unpredictability in online gamblers' habits, there is no obvious peak or quiet time so the company has to maintain a rate of monitoring as if it were experiencing a peak constantly.
“We're dealing with real money so we have to guarantee reliability and security all the time. Our business requires more attention 24 hours a day than most other web sites,” explained Jeremy Longley, CTO at PKR.com.
The company also manages scalability related to growth in traffic. The gaming site launched just three and a half years ago and in March this year it saw 1.61 billion hits.
PKR.com's legacy traffic management software, which was based on Windows, was struggling to cope, said Longley. Zeus, however, will be able to scale up its services to manage the company’s rapid growth.
Additionally, Longley claimed that the alternative traffic management solutions were hardware-based and a lot more expensive than Zeus's software-based solution.
Zeus Traffic Manager supports a forum for the gambling community. It also allowed PKR.com to streamline the experience for customers when they made deposits or withdrawals on account areas of the site.
