Infosys expands Indian footprint

IT services firm Infosys is expanding its investment in Indian development

IT services firm Infosys has Indian government support to build a new shared facility in Kolkata (Calcutta).

According to a note on the Infosys web site the campus, which will include a development centre, will see an "investment of 5bn rupees, and will create more than 5,000 jobs over a period of time".

S Gopalakrishnan, chief executive and managing director of Infosys, said, " The Kolkata office will be one of our largest facilities. It should be able to support any client for any service. Our expansion will depend on how fast we grow."

Mr. Debesh Das, Minister in Charge of IT for the Government of West Bengal added, “Kolkata has become the new hotspot for IT in the East, with its rich cultural and educational heritage. Going forward, we expect to see more of such investments coming into the state and more jobs being generated. We are very happy on having Infosys here in Kolkata.”
