Volvo renews outsourcing contract
Further functions will be moved to supplier WM-data
Volvo Cars has announced an extension of a contract with supplier WM-data, confirming that further IT services will be outsourced to the operations and support services provider.
As part of the contract extension, the Nordic IT company, now owned by LogicaCMG, will take over development of the Tivoli systems management platform used by Volvo Cars. It will also be responsible for the administration of the Tivoli platform.
WM-data already supports Volvo’s European server platform and is now implementing new services to make existing systems more efficient and secure.
Stefan Gardefjord, chief executive at WM-data, says the firm will continue to meet the demands for efficiency that Volvo requires at every level of business, offering predictability and high availability.
‘All operations within Volvo Car, from design to production, are IT intensive and place high demands on operations reliability,’ said Gardefjord.
‘Volvo cars has awarded us with this contract extension for the operations and support of the IT environment because we have met the high expectations placed on us in the initial contract phase.’
Volvo Cars first outsourced its IT systems to WM-data in 2002, promoting a focus on its core business.
The IT company has developed solutions across the company, enabling better server management, authorisation administration and developing solutions to meet regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley.
‘We are now part of the LogicaCMG group, which strengthens our outsourcing offering and brings a high level of domain expertise in the automotive industry to the table,’ said Gardefjord.
