Lords to look at online security

A select committee has been set up to investigate home internet security

The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee is to launch an inquiry into personal internet security.

It will start on 9 October and be the first in depth Parliamentary study of the issue.

Lord Broers, committee chairman, says people need to be made more aware of security issues. 'Technology is changing so fast that no-one seems to have had time to step back and look in the round at the emerging threats to personal security, and the ways society might counter them,' he said.

'We want to help individuals rather than companies who are in a better position to look after themselves. I would think there is a reasonable chance that some legislation might ensue, said Broers.
