Coastguard adds to service deal

The MCA is to improve repair services

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has extended a managed service contract to include laptop, desktop and server repair services.

The three year deal with Arqiva will cover all hardware support for the MCA's 1,300 staff nationwide.

A separate agreement has been signed with the vendor to support and maintain the MCA's radio communications infrastructure.

James Findlay, head of IT at the MCA, says this 'break-fix' contract is the first of its type for the MCA.

'As a maritime safety organisation, and as a national emergency service, we depend on a reliable technical infrastructure to respond to any incidents on the coast or on the sea,' he said.

'Knowing that our critical IT hardware infrastructure is being supported by a contractor that fully understands the importance of our systems is crucial.

'This new contract primarily offers our user base a single point of contact for all equipment faults, whether they are communications or IT equipment-related,' Findlay said.
