Yahoo searches for IT staff with web skills

Internet portal company looks for service programme managers

Internet portal and web services firm Yahoo is to recruit IT staff to work on new projects, such as the official site of the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

The company, which has already increased its global headcount by 40 per cent this year, is particularly keen to recruit programme managers for new projects, but also has posts in technical and creative engineering, and managerial and executive roles in technical support.

‘A challenge we face is finding high quality service programme managers,’ said Andrew Burke, director for Yahoo international service engineering.

‘There are few people in this area that combine excellent programme management and communication skills with service management technical experience gained in the internet or media industry.’

Burke says the demand for more staff comes from the company’s constant search for new talent to foster business growth.

‘We want people who are able to work with business colleagues to define the technical requirements for developing, building, deploying and supporting our product portfolio.

‘On the creative side, we are looking for people with web technology skills and mobile mark-up languages,’ he said.

These skills areas include WML, CHTML, XHTML, Javascript and HTML, as well as web design skills in applications such as Macromedia Flash, Dreamweaver and Photoshop.

‘On the technical side, database skills in areas such as Oracle, Siebel and MySQL are in demand,’ he said.
