Expedia overhauls reservations system

Online travel company to improve web site performance

Online travel company Expedia has overhauled the infrastructure of its reservation systems to improve the availability and performance of its web site.

Expedia’s trip planning tools allow travellers to book airline tickets, hotel reservations, cars, activities, vacation packages and cruises online.

The company uses service oriented architecture for the flexibility and agility to add and update services as soon as possible.

It is using application infrastructure software from Progress Software to simplify the integration of its IT systems.

‘Expedia is the world’s largest global travel marketplace and technology plays a vital role in supporting our business vision,’ said Expedia chief technology officer Paul Onnen.

‘Having the flexibility to change services as needed and the ability to do it quickly will ensure that Expedia customers always receive the highest level of service that the market has to offer.’
