Somerfield deploys workforce management software

Supermarket to improve efficiency by optimising staff schedules

Supermarket chain Somerfield is deploying workforce management software to more efficiently manage more than 50,000 employees across 1,100 shops.

The system will enable to company to more accurately match staff schedules to customer demand using integrated budgeting, forecasting, scheduling and attendance management functions.

Somerfield head of simplification Adrian Peace says the technology will allow the retailer to increase productivity while improving customer and employee satisfaction.

‘Somerfield required a fully automated workforce management solution to support our mission of providing the best possible customer service in the most cost effective way possible,’ said Peace.

‘We selected Kronos for Retail based on their retail expertise and their track record in product innovation for the retail sector.’

Peace says managers need simple, easy-to-use tools to improve productivity and focus activities on delivering excellent customer service.

Using the software, Somerfield will be able to create the optimal employee schedule based on store-specific data including business trends and customer traffic.

The optimised schedules, based on Somerfield’s labour requirement in 15-minute intervals, will ensure the right employee is always in the right place at the right time.

The system will integrate with Somerfield’s existing SAP HR and Payroll system and the project will be completed in all shops during 2007.
