Virtualisation technology on the rise

Three quarters of firms either have or are planning consolidation technology, survey says

Three out of four business worldwide have or intent to deploy server virtualisation system over the next 12 months regardless of size, according to Yankee Group analysts.

The research firm found that overall only four per cent of the firms surveyed are not planning any form of virtualisation system.

Of those who have already deployed virtualisation, the survey showed that most had already made considerable cost reductions through consolidation of servers, redundant software licences and reduced management time.

A spokesman for Yankee Group says the benefits of virtualisation are that it allows businesses to turn a single server into multiple, virtual servers.

'This saves money and crucial space in the data centre, which improves Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and creates a faster Return on Investment (ROI),' he said.
