South East tops UK business broadband league

Uptake of business broadband shows a predictable pattern, but BT says late adopters are catching up

BT today released figures showing the diverse levels of take-up of BT Business Broadband across the UK. The data shows the South East accounts for 20 percent of all BT’s business connections, with the North East taking up just three percent.

BT Business managing director Bill Murphy said: “Smaller companies are continuing to adopt broadband at an extraordinary rate and we’re still taking orders for around 20,000 new connections each month. What we’re finding is that areas that didn’t have many early adopters are now really embracing broadband - and that’s where the current growth is. The other thing is, these later adopters are often more innovative and not just using broadband for email and surfing the internet. Instead, they’re using high-speed internet to take advantage of services like remote support and broadband telephone services.”

London comes in second with 15 percent, and the East third with 12 percent. The figures do not show uptake of other vendors’ business broadband services.
