Westminster gets BT wireless network
Council deal will provide wireless coverage from West End to seat of government
Westminster is to become a WiFi internet zone, thanks to a deal between the local council and BT.
The borough is one of 12 places to be fitted out by BT as part of its Wireless Cities programme to provide WiFi access to local business and citizens set to be up and running by March 2007.
Westminster City Councilintends to use the system to help mobile workers, such as its environmental health team, to file reports on the move, without needing to return to the office.
The wireless system will allow Westminster to deliver on its goals for community safety by supporting a more flexible and adaptable CCTV network, says councillor Colin Barrow.
'Through wireless technology, Westminster will be a better place to live and work; the council will be more efficient, and be able to keep the streets safer,' he said.
