Energy companies fund software boom

Oil, gas and power companies spending heavily

Aveva sells engineering software to oil and gas companies

British software company Aveva Group saw annual profit for the year ended 31 March 2008 rise 92 per cent to £34.2m from £17.8m the year before. Sales rose 34 per cent to £127.6m.

The Cambridge-based company specialises in software to support the design, construction and operation of complex engineering projects in the oil and gas, power, marine, pulp and paper, chemical and mining industries.

Aveva chairman Nick Priest said high commodity prices and strong user demand, particularly from energy companies, were behind the positive results.
