BBC appoints Tiffany Hall as new CIO

Hall succeeds Keith Little to oversee new open technology strategy

The BBC has a new CIO

The BBC has appointed Tiffany Hall to the position of chief information officer (CIO).

Hall’s appointment follows the departure of previous CIO Keith Little in August this year, and is part of the corporation's Broadcast and Enterprise Technology overhaul.

Hall will oversee the new open technology strategy recently instigated by chief technology officer (CTO) John Linwood. The strategy aims to offer greater insight into details and specifications required by the broadcaster from companies looking to tender to the BBC.

Other responsibilities include strategic planning of the corporation’s IT infrastructure, information security systems and support for BBC business systems and professional services teams including HR, as well as marketing, communications and audiences. In addition she will oversee the newly combined development and delivery team.

Linwood, who had been overseeing many of the CIO’s responsibilities since Little’s departure, said of the appointment: "Tiffany brings extensive BBC experience to the role in addition to valuable commercial insights from her time at Shell.”

Hall most recently headed up the BBC's development and delivery department and she will cover this role in addition to her new post until a replacement is found.

Prior to this she was technology controller for BBC Nations and Regions, where she set the technology strategy and promoted tapeless broadcast environments when launching BBC Northern Ireland’s Digital NI project. Hall moved to the BBC from Shell in 1995 where she held several senior positions with national and regional briefs.
