IT Week man's doppelganger to be movie star

Guy Kewney wants Clapton to play him in Guy Goma film

The real Guy Kewney

A bizarre incident that saw IT Week columnist Guy Kewney accidentally substituted by Congolese computer technician Guy Goma in a BBC interview is to feature in a forthcoming film.

Goma’s attempts to bluff his way through the interview in May became an internet video classic and now producer Alison Rosenzweig, whose previous features include Windtalkers starring Nicholas Cage, has plans to use Goma’s story.

“He’s a fun, internationally famous person who is an interesting source for movie material,” she told The Sun.

Goma wants ‘Godfather of Soul’ James Brown to play him but Kewney has his eyes on another musical great.

“I’d like Eric Clapton to play me,” he said. “Pop stars are always good actors and there’s nobody else old enough to play me,” joked Kewney, 60.

“I should get an agent,” Kewney added. “It looks like I’ll be able to abandon plans to start up a north London taxi firm.” Early reports following the mix-up incorrectly described Goma as a taxi driver who had been waiting to drive Kewney home.

The aftermath of the BBC snafu saw Kewney interviewed by the media in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Italy while film crews were sent out to track him down in Venice and Zaragoza, Spain.
