Replay aims to pinpoint code faults

Tool allows users to identify root causes of application errors

Replay Solutions will today release its new tool, ReplayDirector for Java EE, which allows firms to slash the costs of application deployment.

The ReplayDirector records the numerous inputs and outputs affecting an application, as well as the environment that the application is running in.

This allows users to quickly establish exactly what was happening at the point an error occurred, said Jonathon Lindo, chief executive for Reply Solutions, eliminating the time-consuming and relatively costly process of trying to replicate conditions in order to identify the root cause of errors.

"This has allowed some of our customers to cut [application development] costs by as much as 15 to 20 per cent," he said.

As application development cycles have contracted, the imperative to quickly identify the causes of errors have increased, he added.

The company may be reasonably new to enterprise buyers, but it is well known in the gaming industry, where it's technology has been used to cut the development cycle for industry-leading titles such as Tomb Raider.

ReplayDirector for Java EE is available immediately. An entry-level version, with licences for 10 named users, starts at £25k ($50k). It is also available on a per CPU basis.
