Ryder Cup goes wireless

Scoring will be transmitted over wireless networks and handheld devices

The 2006 Ryder Cup in Europe will be using real time sports scoring technology from Unisys to underpin the collection, collation and distribution of all scoring information.

The three-day golf tournament, which starts on 22 September, will rely on Unisys technology to provide audiences with the latest scores, live from the course at the K Club in Straffan, Ireland.

Results will be delivered to broadcasters including NBC and Sky and feed into the web site www.rydercup.com.

A wireless network, handheld devices, and more than 115 scoring terminals throughout the course will ensure golf fans can keep up to date with the action.

Unisys has provided sports scoring technology for major golf championships including the US Open and the 2004 Ryder Cup in the USA, but this is the first time it has done so for the Ryder Cup in Europe.
