Ofcom plans for faster broadband
The UK telecoms regulator seeks to assure operators over investments in new technology
Ofcom has set out a framework to encourage network operators to invest in new infrastructure needed for future super-fast broadband services. Chief Executive Ed Richards said that investing in new technologies is inherently more risky than developing the current infrastructure, so operators needed to know that the regulatory framework will permit them to make a return on this investment.
"They need to know that the regulator will not suddenly change the rules of the game just as the rewards for the risk start to flow in," he said.
