Royal Mail's IT supremo heads for the exit

Robin Dargue to join Alcatel-Lucent after eventful tenure at postal services giant

Dargue implemented big changes at Royal Mail's IT department

Robin Dargue is to leave his post as Royal Mail CIO and technology director, the company confirmed today.

"Robin is leaving Royal Mail Group to take up a position with Alcatel-Lucent and a search is now under way for his successor,” a Royal Mail Group spokesman told Computing.

“Robin has made a significant contribution to the Group and we wish him well for the future. He is remaining with the company for up to six months to help with the transition to his successor."

Last year, Computing reported on staff discontent at Royal Mail’s prolonged attempt to reorganise its IT department. To support the overhaul, Dargue launched a staff review with the aim of reducing the then 300-strong permanent IT workforce by half.

Affected employees claimed that the £1.2bn modernisation programme was causing unrest and sapping morale.

The reasons behind Dargue’s exit have not been disclosed, with Royal Mail insisting that the company and employee are parting company on good terms.
