News agency gains ISO certification

News agency reaches ISO certification in 7 out of 8 data centres

Reuters: reached ISO 27001 in 7 out of 8 global data centres

Reuters has met global information security standards for its Geneva technical centre, which supports all the firm’s media and financial services.

The news agency now has ISO 27001 certification for seven of its eight data centres, with the final UK installation to follow in November.

‘The certifications raise the quality bar and are recognised by our customers,’ said Reuters security manager Chris Tovey.

The ISO 27001 standard requires an organisation to adhere to 133 controls or give a valid reason for not doing so.

Reuters’ aim is to protect its reputation, says Tovey.

'The driver for this program was a growing awareness regarding information security from clients and customers,' said Tovey. 'There has been a number of high profile cases recently where confidential information has leaked into the public domain to the embarrassment of certain other organisations. We don't want that brand damage.'

Certification for the Geneva data centre was achieved with Insight Consulting.
