JJB gives fraud a red card

Retailer using software to reduce fraud during busy Wold Cup sales period

Sports retailer JJB is using innovative fraud detection software to reduce the incidents of card-not-present fraud as online sales of England shirts soar during the World Cup.

The technology allows all initial payments to go through the initial acceptance stage, after which rigorous checks are conducted.

Within 20 minutes, all genuine transactions are released, while high risk transactions remain in a quarantine area for further review.

While fraudulent payments are identifies, snap decisions to reject genuine customers because of perceived risk can be avoided, improving sales and customer satisfaction.

‘It seems commonplace for genuine online customers to be turned away and we wanted to ensure this did not happen at our online store,’ said Richard Hodson of JJB.

The Gatekeeper software is provided by The 3rd Man and can be tailored to the individual needs of businesses.

JJB is also planning to use the software for the launch of new sites linked to its recent partnerships with Glasgow Rangers FC and Everton FC.
