London 2012 to boost web presence using Cisco SaaS platform
Cisco's Eos will enable organisers to offer public rich new online experiences
The 2012 Olympic Games will be held in London
The 2012 London Olympic Games Committee will be creating community-driven web content around the event using Cisco’s Eos software-as-a-service platform.
London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (Locog) has been given access to Cisco Eos, a hosted platform that enables the creation, management and support of white label community-driven web sites including content targeting, asset management and site administration functionality.
The technology will enable Locog to deliver new, interactive consumer experiences by creating, managing and growing online communities built around London 2012 content. The first Eos-enabled experiences from Locog will be available later this year.
Neville Wheeler, director and European lead of Cisco’s media solutions group, said the technology allows Locog to focus on being creative and keeping fans informed, engaged and up-to-date about stories surrounding the Games.
“If Locog were to create their own online platform allowing engagement for fans from scratch, it would probably be expensive and complex to set up,” he said.
“So by creating this, we have given Locog an opportunity to focus on what they do best: which is providing compelling content that increases engagement with users. You can see by yesterday’s launch of official mascots Wenlock and Mandeville, they’re good at being creative and telling stories.”
The implementation extends Cisco’s role as Official Network Infrastructure Supporter for London 2012. Cisco has been tasked with developing the IT infrastructure for the Games, after original provider, Nortel, sold off parts of its business that the company needed to support the project.
