Firms fall short in capacity planning
Survey says more than a third of data centres are poorly run
More than a third of data centres are poorly run and unable to predict capacity needs, according to new research.
Some 37 per cent of firms surveyed said their data centre had run out of space, power or cooling capacity with insufficient notice in the past two years.
The report by the Aperture Research Institute says 41 per cent of respondents rated their capacity planning as below average.
Only six per cent considered themselves ‘excellent’ at predicting the need for extra space or power, while 10 per cent rated their abilities as poor.
Some 90 per cent said the challenge of assessing future infrastructure needs was a medium or high priority.
