Business Links improves report system
Business assistance service using BI software to justify funding
Business Link for London is using software to help it secure funding to help small firms.
The government-funded business advice service has installed business intelligence software following an extensive project to de-duplicate the data it holds on businesses across the capital.
Mike Pratt, Business Link for London's data integrity manager, says producing accurate information, that is not duplicated, for its reports to funding bodies is very important.
'The quality of the data inside the reports is crucial. If the funding body audits it and comes back to say it has found 10 per cent of your work is duplicated they will not give us our full funding,' he said.
'Without that we cannot support London businesses in the ways we want to and plan to.'
Pratt says before the data was de-duplicated using the Business Objects system, up to 25 per cent of the service's records were inaccurate or copies.
'We have now got that down to 2.5 per cent, and we aim to go further getting it down to 0.5 per cent,' he said.
