LANDesk promises virtual server management

Systems management firm to help IT departments keep tabs on virtual machines

Systems management specialist LANDesk will develop new tools to help IT departments keep track of virtual machines, with a view to including them in version 9.0 of its product suite, due this autumn.

LANDesk general manager Steve Daley said the company is currently working on tools that will integrate with its Avocent data centre products.

“Right now, an image shows up as having three virtual servers running on one physical server, which we can then patch, but the ability to manage those virtual machines and move them around is on the roadmap,” Daley said.

LANDesk parent company Avocent recently optimised its DSView 3 datacentre management software to run on handheld devices such as the Blackberry, and delivered enhanced integration with other systems management tools including HP OpenView, NetClarity, Uptime Devices and LANDesk Server Manager.
