Virgin Atlantic opts for managed network
Airline signs two-year deal with supplier Affiniti
Virgin Atlantic has signed a two-year managed networking deal to improve the reliability of its communication and airport systems.
The airline has awarded the £0.5m contract to vendor Affiniti who will remotely manage voice and data systems at Virgin's 11 UK sites including Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
Virgin's network covers 2,500 PCs used for various tasks including check-in desks, departure lounges, flight operations and engineering.
Under the terms of the contract, Affiniti can identify potential problems and hopefully fix them before they become too serious.
'The ability to identify problems on the network in real-time, before they affect business operations is vital to our efficiency,' said Kim Pharro, Virgin Atlantic's infrastructure services manager.
Pharro says the airline has already seen an improvement in its network performance, which is allowing Virgin to be more proactive in its planning processes.
Network uptime and the time it takes to fix problems has also improved.
