Firms see mixed pay-off from IT

Many firms say they do not get a satisfactory return on investment (ROI) from IT services and applications, according to an IT Week survey.

HP, IBM and Fujitsu were the only services vendors that satisfied more than half of their customers in ROI terms. Only a third of Cap Gemini and Accenture customers claimed satisfaction. Many firms are also unhappy about their business apps – no vendor was rated as offering a good return by more than two-thirds of customers.

However, investments in security, telecoms, storage and hardware paid off better, and several vendors satisfied 80 percent or more. James Burckhardt, head of research at IT Week publisher VNU, said, “The more commoditised a sector the easier it seems to be to deliver higher satisfaction.”
