Northampton uses IT to manage property

Borough council buys system to improve the way it deals with maintenance work

Northampton Borough Council has installed software to improve the management of its housing stock.

The council maintains 12,500 homes across its area, making sure that plumbing, electricity and structure are all maintained at satisfactory levels.

The software will also be used as part of an online portal to give tenants more information about maintenance and billing data.

Northampton has a constant challenge is to continually improve the services it offers to the people who live in homes it owns, says the borough cabinet member for housing, councillor Yousuf Miah.

'It is vital that we have the right IT solutions in place to support this. We are confident that it will help us generate much needed efficiency savings and improve our performance in housing,' he said.

The IBS OPENSystems system will also allow Northampton to handle customer queries more efficiently and reduce the time it takes for a house to be transferred from an old tenant to a new one.
