Home shopping company fights spam
JD Williams installs email security measures
JD Williams, the home shopping division of the N Brown Group Plc, has implemented an on-demand security filter to protect its 1,700 email users from spam, email-bourne viruses and inappropriate content.
JD Williams receives 500,000 emails every month, 45 per cent of which are spam. The online nature of the company’s business means that virus attacks and spam are a priority.
Prior to implementation the company spent two full days a month managing its email security packages.
Craig Millican, network services manager at JD Williams, said: ‘The number of spam emails we were witnessing grew exponentially and remedying the problem suddenly became imperative.’
‘We wanted a service that would completely remove the worry about viruses,’ said Millcan. ‘Our content filtering solution was time-consuming to manage and it was difficult to strike the right balance – we obviously didn’t want offensive or illegal content entering the company but at the same time we didn’t want to be too restrictive.’
The company implemented MailControl supplied by BlackSpider Technologies. Millan can already see the benefits.
‘We have reduced administration time to a negligible level – our IT team has effectively gained two extra days a week.’
