Cambridgeshire police get faster comms
Constabulary to get high capacity network to deal with expanding data flows
Cambridgeshire Constabulary is upgrading its communications network to cope with growing data pressures.
The Wide Area Network (WAN) will connect 19 premises across the county with microwave and fibre technologies and have a capacity of 1GBit/s, 30 times more data than can be carried on the existing system.
It will allow the constabulary to run its existing applications more efficiently, as well as meeting future projected capacity needs.
Jon Lane, head of networks at Cambridgeshire Constabulary says quick and reliable communications are vital to the work of the police.
'We need a solution that doesn’t involve completely rebuilding our existing network and which keeps costs as low as possible,' he said.
The deal with Arqiva to supply the WAN is worth £2.6m and will last for the next five years.
