John Suffolk is new government CIO
Ex-Joined Up Justice chief replaces Watmore in eGovernment Unit role
John Suffolk has been appointed as the government Chief Information Officer (CIO), to replace Ian Watmore following his move to head the Prime Minister's Delivery Unit.
For the past two years, Suffolk has been director general of the £2bn Joined Up Justice programme at the Criminal Justice IT unit of the Home Office.
The government CIO heads the eGovernment Unit at the Cabinet Office and is responsible for leading the public sector-wide CIO Council and overseeing the implementation of the Transformational Government strategy published last November.
Cabinet Office minister Jim Murphy said: 'I am delighted to announce John Suffolk has been appointed to this post as I believe he has the necessary drive, experience and leadership qualities to fill this pivotal role – a role in which he will be expected to play an important part in realising the government's vision for public service reform.'
