Tesco launches mobile-based loyalty application
Innovation project intended to bring extra convenience to customers
Tesco is planning to extend the functionality of its mobile offering
Tesco has launched a mobile-based application for its Clubcard loyalty scheme.
The application displays a virtual version of the barcode found on the traditional loyalty cards on the device screen.
Users can type in their loyalty card details on starting the application the first time. The barcode is then quickly displayed whenever the app is initialised.
iPhone and iPod Touch users can download the application, available for free at the Apple app store.
Tesco’s head of research and development Nick Lansley revealed on his blog yesterday that the launch is “just the start of the journey”.
“We intend to do lots more with this app in the future, including display your points balance,” said Lansley.
“We’re even looking at finding ways of bringing e-vouchers straight to your Clubcard app so you can use them at the checkout directly from your phone,” he said.
