Average daily number of transactions up 55 per cent at the London bourse
TradElect IT platform has helped improve trading volumes
The London Stock Exchange (LSE) and subsidiary Borsa Italiana carried out a total of 212 million electronic equity trades in 2007 thanks to its new TradElect technology platform.
Average daily number of trades are up 55 per cent over the year to 839,244, while the average daily value traded grew 41 per cent to £12.8 billion.
"TradElect and the increase in capacity and the increase in speed have had a very important part to play in facilitating trading," a spokeswoman told Computing.
LSE has also attracted more custom by lowering its trading tariffs.
A total of 15.9 million equity trades were carried out on the two exchanges’ during December 2007, with the total value reaching £201.3bn.
