SuperJanet5 network is rolled out on time and on budget

Network to support 18 million education and research users

World class network provides connectivity to education and research users

SuperJanet5, the enhanced network for UK education and research establishments, has been completed on time and on budget.

Operated and developed by Ukerna and funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (Jisc), SuperJanet5 provides a network across the UK to support more than 18 million users including research institutes, universities, further education and primary and secondary schools.

Plans are underway to trial 40Gbit/s channel operation over SuperJanet5, both at the transmission level and IP level.

The trial starting this summer will take place on the link between Telehouse and the London Core Point of Presence (C-PoP) which is one of the busiest parts of the network.

Initially a 40Gbit/s channel will be established over separate fibre to the operational traffic between Telehouse and the London C-PoP and once Ukerna has tested its stability then the channel will be cut over to the SuperJanet5 infrastructure.
