Record number sign up for a night under the stars to raise money for Action for Children

The IT industry’s annual charity fundraiser, the Byte Night sleep out, has seen the number of volunteers more than double this year despite the pressures of the recession.
Byte Night raises funds for Action for Children by inviting IT professionals and vendor executives to spend a night sleeping under the stars in one of several events around the country.
The fundraiser, which is in its 11th year, has signed up more than 450 people for this year’s events – up from 218 in 2008.
“I continue to be amazed by the generosity of the IT industry,” said Byte Night founder Ken Deeks.
“Despite the worries and pressures brought about by the economic crisis, their sense of social responsibility and enthusiasm for the Byte Night cause is stronger than ever.”
Sleep-out events will take place in London, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Manchester, and the Thames Valley on 2 October. If you would like further information visit the web site www.bytenight.org.uk, or follow the event on Twitter or at its Facebook group.
